FAQ: What Staining Product Should I Use?

When it comes to staining your project, there are a few options:

  • Translucent stain – Clear, allowing the natural wood and product details to fully show through.
  • Transparent or semi-transparent stain – Darkens the wood slightly while still letting the grain show. This option provides a balance between color and natural appearance.
  • Solid stain – Heavier coverage that gives a more uniform color but hides much of the wood grain.

Important Note: In high-humidity areas like the Pacific Northwest, you should avoid stains with linseed oil. These tend to promote algae and mold growth.

It is critical that you apply paint or stain within 90 days of project completion. Our warranty requires it, and failing to protect the wood surface can cause your project to deteriorate prematurely. Staining or painting isn’t optional—it’s essential for both protection and warranty coverage.
